About Our Scholarship Programs

The true spirit of RadioScholarships.com is summed up in the second word of the Conclave mission statement:

“Through education, the Conclave’s mission is to improve the quality of broadcasting and related industries so they may better serve the public interest.”

Since 1979, the non-profit Conclave - in keeping with its mission of educating the broadcast industry - has been awarding scholarships to deserving students desiring an education inside the radio and music industries. These broadcast scholarships given annually to three nationally recognized educational institutions. The Radio Industry scholarships are offered to attend Brown College of Minneapolis or to The Specs Howard School of Broadcasting Arts of Southfield, MI. One Music Business scholarship is awarded to McNally-Smith College of Music of St. Paul.  The Conclave also awards The Marc Birgir Memorial Scholarship and The Rockwell Scholarship. In 2009, Conclave scholarships (Including three baccalaureate grants) were awarded in the amount of nearly $100,000 in scholarships, making the Conclave scholarship program one of the most valuable in the industry!

The Brown Scholarship is named the Dennis Becker Memorial Scholarship in honor of the late Dennis Becker, the Brown Placement Director who founded the Conclave scholarship program. The scholarship is used for for the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radio. Any student who chooses may continue their education at Brown College and earn a B.S. Degree in Communications. The Specs Howard scholarship is presented in the name of the late Bill Gavin, founder/editor/publisher of the prestigious Gavin Report. Bill partnered with the Conclave in its early years, co-branding it as a Gavin Regional Radio conference. He served on it’s Board until his death.

The McNally-Smith College of Music Scholarship was added in 2002, The Marc Birgir Memorial Scholarship (named for the late BDS Radio executive) was brought on board in 2006, and The Broadcast Center (St. Louis) Scholarship was added for the 2009 school year.

In 2007, The Rockwell Scholarship was created to honor a member of the industry. It represents a monetary reward presented to a member of the broadcast community to further their education. It is named after one of the founding Conclave Board members, the late Mike Rockwell.

In 2012, the Conclave - in partnership with Media Institute (Madison & Minneapolis) - added the MMI-Conclave scholarship, an award presented to a student enrolled at Media Institute.
